Inspiration flourishes across Queensland with the rollout of more Advanced Manufacturing Workshops
Levi Jenkins, our Program Manager, led an exciting collaborative initiative that unfolded across Queensland, bringing together the combined expertise of GISP AM and GISP ICT. She actively participated in a series of inspiring Bionic Hand Workshops, engaging with schools and industry representatives. These workshops not only showcased the potential of advanced manufacturing and technology but also fostered collaborations that ignited a passion for innovation among students.
Day 1: Townsville Workshop (July 26)
The Bionic Hand Workshop kicked off with great enthusiasm at The Cathedral School in Townsville, attracting students from four prominent schools, including Kirwan State High School, Ignatius Park College, and St. Anthony's Catholic College. The event saw the active participation of 28 students who eagerly delved into the world of bionics, guided by the expertise of Dr. Damien Kee, representing GISP Advanced Manufacturing & GISP ICT. The workshop's success was made possible thanks to the valuable support of The Townsville Manufacturing Hub and industry representative Adam Packer from TEi Services.
Day 2: Cairns Workshop (July 27)
In Cairns, the Bionic Hand Workshop continued to make waves, hosted by Bentley Park College and attended by students from Woree State High School and Cairns State High School. The event was graced by the presence of industry representative Michael Hagen from EDMS, who provided valuable insights and inspiration to the students. The support and presence of Cairns Manufacturing Hub added to the workshop's success, further highlighting the importance of connecting education and industry.
Day 3: Bundaberg Workshop (July 31)
The journey continued in Bundaberg, where students from Bundaberg State High School and Bundaberg Christian College gathered to explore the world of bionics. Around 22 eager students took part in the workshop, facilitated by Dr Damien Kee and supported by Braden Hellmuth from Farm Concepts and Geoff Augutis from ACS Bundaberg Chapter. Special thanks to Gladstone Manufacturing Hub for supporting this great initiative.
Day 4: Maryborough Workshop (Aug 1)
The last workshop was held in Maryborough. Around 26 students from St Mary's College participated in the workshop to explore how robotics and automation can impact the world of ICT & Manufacturing and learn the fundamental skills to create a Bionic Hand with Dr Damien Kee. Cynthia Gusman-Nolan, ICT GISP Program Manager, attended the workshop and encouraged students to embrace these transformative technologies.
Throughout the workshops, GISP’s dynamic approach and passion for empowering young minds were evident, as we encouraged students to think beyond the conventional and embrace innovation. Our journey across Queensland highlights the impact and importance of engaging with schools, organisations, and industry stakeholders in nurturing a forward-thinking industry generation. By bridging the gap between education and industry, GISP continues to inspire and pave the way for a brighter future where innovation and collaboration thrive.
