Queensland Manufacturing Institute is launching an innovative free app for school students that bridges the information gap to a STEAM career.

Designed to empower the future industry workforce when it comes to selecting high school subjects, The Meaningful Pathways STEAM web app showcases the wide range of jobs and industries that feed into advanced manufacturing and career pathways – while lifting the lid on the rich opportunities that await young Queenslanders.

Non-Executive Director at Queensland Manufacturing Institute, Shay Chalmers, said she was thrilled to announce the release of the web app, which brilliantly highlights each stepping stone on the path to a STEAM career.

“Through the Meaningful Pathway STEAM web app, students are able to easily find and choose industries that interest them. They can then select the subjects they thrive in to explore the exciting career opportunities on their horizon,” Ms Chalmers said.

“This app was carefully designed to not only showcase the variety of STEAM job opportunities available, but to cleverly assist students in choosing the right subjects for later years of high school and beyond.

“We understand that each student is different and finding the right career for them can be challenging. Through the web app, students will be able to view insights into careers in renewables, engineering, manufacturing, biomedical, defence and many more.”

The Meaningful Pathways App was created in collaboration with TAFE QLD who provided the data on potential career roles, alongside assistance from the Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing, and Water.

As the Queensland Manufacturing Institute works towards meeting a comprehensive series of state and national manufacturing priorities, Ms Chalmers said acknowledging the role the state’s future workforce will play remained paramount to achieving those goals.
